A guide to choosing the right long distance movers
Long distance movers are those who conduct moves over a distance of 100 miles and/or cross state lines. Do not sign the papers before your goods have reached their destination and you have checked for damage thoroughly. Keep all the related papers safely as they can be needed for claiming insurance and also investigating in case of a dispute. Always get someone to receive the goods at the destination and someone to dispatch them at your old location, if you cannot do it yourself.
Keep the contact numbers of the driver and the movers who are going to travel with your stuff. Of course, you have the address and phone number of the organization on the papers that you have signed but it gives you more peace of mind if you can personally be in touch with the driver and follow-up on the progress.
Unless you are planning on doing all the unpacking yourself, it is always better to employ the same long distance movers to do the unpacking and unloading for you. It is a waste of energy and time to get hold of a new company to do the unpacking. Most two men truck companies offer you unpacking services at very subsidized rates in addition to their moving services. Even if it costs a little more, it will certainly save you a lot of trouble.
Another important thing to remember is to ensure the correct weight is taken. You must ensure by checking the receipt that the weight taken is measured correctly and at a government-approved weighing center. Retain the receipt safely as it is important for calculating the final cost.
