Flash memory is a non-volatile memory storage that can be erased using electrical methods and reprogrammed. It is a specific type of Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) that is erased and programmed in large blocks. Micro SD 2GB is the smallest memory card available commercially (15 x 11 x 1) about the size of a fingernail, quarter the size of a SD card. Micro SD 2GB can be used in devices intended for SD, mini SD and even USB cards by means of using a suitable adapter. Micro SD cards almost always come along with an SD adapter. TransFlash cards and micro SD cards are interchangeable, meaning each can be used in devices made for the other. The only difference being micro SD supports SDIO mode enabling non-memory card devices like Bluetooth and GPS.
Storage capacities of micro SD cards range from 64MB to 16GB. MicroSD cards were developed by SanDisk. It was initially called T-Flash, then TransFlash, before being renamed microSD after being adopted by SDA. The power consumption of the micro SD cards vary from manufacturer to manufacturer but is mostly in the range of 20 to 100 mA at a supply voltage of 3.3 V.
