I can not run on my new laptop!?

Ok, I feel like an idiot, but I just got my laptop refurbished and can not turn it on. I have the adapter plugged into the wall and into the computer and nothing happens. The hole where the adapter goes goes very well, so I thought it was a bad adapter. They told me they check it before shipping. I support the button and nothing happens. I'm too stupid to turn on the laptop? Is there a trick to it? It's a Panasonic Toughbook.

hahaha. sometimes you have to hold the button for several seconds.
