Green sapphire gemstones
Sapphire, a variety of corundum, is generally regarded as the blue, but in fact it occurs in a wide range of colors except red. This is because the stone industry uses the name of red ruby corundum, in recognition of the particular value we attach to the hardest of all the red stones.
Blue is such an important color for sapphire sapphire term in the gem trade refers always blue sapphire. Other colors are called sapphire sapphire fancy, and the colors are pink, yellow, orange, green, purple and white. The wide range of colors in corundum is caused by various impurities such as chromium, titanium and iron.
Among the fancy sapphires, yellow has been particularly appreciated, largely because of its place as one of the nine planetary gems in Vedic astrology. Pink sapphire one of the rarest sapphires fantasy, and is usually found only in small sizes.
green sapphire was once considered one of the least desirable color, but is now increasingly popular, although nobody really knows why. That may be because green has always been an important stone color (Think of emerald, tourmaline and tsavorite garnet) and green sapphire is rare. Outside the emerald, sapphire is the only valuable jewel that occurs in green.
Green sapphire may occur in colors ranging a mint green light to a dark green forest. The most beautiful green sapphire is thought to come from Sri Lanka, but they are quite rare. Most sapphires green you will see on the market are from Thailand or Australia. These tend to dark green and are often blue-green or greenish-yellow. green sapphire can also be found in Burma and Madagascar.
