Some phones ,may be unlocked via codes purchased at a reasonable cost, though putting in codes yourself is only one way to unlock a GSM phone. Many of the Motorola and Sony Ericsson models will require a firmware rewrite, also known as reflashing their firmware. In these instances, the phone must be sent to a company that has the specific hardware needed to complete this task. Not every company can service each and every make and model of mobile devices, so check first to see whether your particular phone can be reflashed by that particular company. And then go for it!
