How Bluetooth Works

Bluetooth devices typically operate at 2.4 GHz in the license free band worldwide ISM available radio. The benefit for this group includes worldwide availability and compatibility. A disadvantage is that the devices must share this band with other RF emitters. This includes car protection systems, other wireless devices, and other noise sources, for example microwaves. To overcome this challenge, Bluetooth uses a fast frequency hopping scheme and therefore uses shorter packets than other standards in the ISM band.
