Better design, improved functionality and faster performance from Curve 8900
RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 is the second generation the compact of society, full QWERTY messaging smartphone. It has the same basic form factor as the 8300 original series devices, but gets some well-appointed features and a bit of the BlackBerry Storm and Bold style. A RIM's most compact phones to date, the 8900 looks great, and made us want to find out if good things really do come in small packages.
Design
RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 has the distinction (but who knows for how long) as the thinnest full QWERTY BlackBerry to date. The smartphone measures 4.2 inches by 2.3 inches wide by 0.5 inches thick and weighs 3.8 ounces cons BlackBerry Curve 8320, when it comes to 4.2 inches high by 2.4 inches wide by 0.6 inches thick and 3.9 ounces. It feels comfortable to use both a phone and messaging device and fit into a pants pocket. We appreciate the 8900 Curve elegant profile, but more than that, we're fans of more solid construction of the phone. Although the phone body is still plastic, RIM used different finishes and paint applications to the handset more durable and you can see the difference when you pick it up. It much less the business and men looking for the BlackBerry Bold, it should appeal to a wide range of users.
The Curve 8900 a 2.4-inch TFT LCD supports 65,536 colors 480×360 pixels at a resolution. It is a better display than the BlackBerry Bold, which is not too shabby itself with a resolution of 480×320 pixels, but there is an additional level of sharpness and brightness curve screen which is pretty impressive. The Curve 8900 also supports the latest version of the BlackBerry operating system so you get a UI update. There is no doubt the user interface is more aesthetic, but we have a minor complaint: many icons are alike, so it's a bit difficult to distinguish individual files and applications on the screen just a glance.
On the left side, there is a unique user key programmable shortcut (voice dialer launches the default), then there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, a volume rocker, a microUSB port and a customizable side button (Used the camera to the box). The camera and flash are located aft, behind the battery cover are the SIM card and microSD expansion slots.
Features
The RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 BlackBerry OS 4.6.1.114 therefore operates Apart from the user interface update above, you also get new features and enhanced applications. For example, unlike 8300 Series to the curve, you can now edit Word, Excel, PowerPoint files and, thanks to the inclusion of DataViz Documents to Go suite. As the Bold and Storm, the Standard Edition is preloaded on the smartphone if you want the ability to create new documents, you will need upgrade to the Premium Edition.
The BlackBerry Curve 8900 also comes with a number of personal information management tools, such as a calendar, task list, a notepad, a voice recorder, calculator, password keeper, and more. One of the improvements most needed was in the area of ??Web browsing, and the Curve 8900 offers. You now have a full HTML Web browser with support for RSS feeds and multimedia, including videos YouTube. Navigation and site navigation is made better by the page and display options of columns and the cursor on the screen.
To connect, you have two options: Wi-Fi or EDGE network T Mobile, which is fine, but what is more interesting for us is what is missing: 3G support.
The Curve camera is upgraded to a target of 3.2 megapixels (2 megapixel) with video recording capabilities, flash, auto focus, 2x zoom and image stabilization. With integrated GPS, you can also geotag photos. The camcorder records clips in two formats with sound and offers a video light and color effects.
Performance
The quad-band (850/900/1800/1900, GPRS / EDGE) RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 in San Francisco with T Mobile service and call quality was satisfactory. There was minimal background noise makes the audio quality a little less pristine than some other smartphones, but nothing prevented us from having a conversation or using the voice of an airline automated system. There is an option Improving audio where you can increase the treble or bass, but we found no significant difference. Our friends reported a case of couples audio singing, but otherwise no major complaints. We did not experience dropped calls during our period review. The speaker was also OK. There was a lot of volume but there were hollow sound, giving the impression that if our interlocutors talking in an empty room.
The BlackBerry Curve 8900 has a battery of 1400 mAh lithium-ion battery with a rated talk time of 5.5 hours and up 14.5 days of standby time.
