Unless you’re one of the rich and famous guys with a heart of gold, the LG GD910 watchphone won’t figure in your list of things to gift your friends. But you can get it for yourself if you have no qualms talking to your wrist as you walk the streets. Orange UK has the watchphone waiting for eager customers for just ?500 on a limited selling run since it was first made available last 27th of August at its Bond Street Orange shop.
Unique Bragging Rights for the Holidays
So what do you get for ?500? Not much. What you get is a basic mobile phone that does the job of 22nd century video calling on the wrist and oodles of high profile bragging rights. And it’s the time of year when parties can boost your ego just wearing the GD910. Or you can take out the leather strap and have the world’s smallest mobile phone in your pocket. ?500 is cheap for a status wristwatch but quite bank-breaking for a basic mobile phone. It’s your choice.
Seriously though, there are fine features on the watchphone on their own. It’s not the world’s first touchscreen 3G watchphone for nothing. You do get 3G to get smoother frame rates on your video calls. Not that it matters on such a small screen, but it helps. Other than that, there’s no internet browser to take advantage of high speed data connectivity. But we figure, that’s not a problem since you’d have to be squinting your eyes to read web pages on its 1.4-inch capacitive touchscreen display.
Yes, it’s capacitive alright. Covered with scratch-proof glass that looks like sapphire glass, it’s a delight to play around with scrolling the menu by just sliding your finger over it. It’s touchscreen has a Flash-based user interface which is quite intuitive and idiot-proof. What could be simpler and less cluttered on a 1.4”screen than having 4 icons on the menu? And talking about controlling the watchphone, you can just talk your way through it with its voice activated commands. Even text messages can be read for you with its text-to-speech feature.
Let’s not forget about its Bluetooth with A2DP – excellent for listening on your mp3 files without any wires dandling from your ears to your wrist. Just be quick about it as its 80MB of internal memory is all you’ll get. Asking for a microSD slot on its petite body is like asking for the moon. But we strongly recommend that this is the best way to make or take a call, very clandestinely on your Bluetooth stereo or mono earpiece. That way you won’t get nosy people to hear your conversation. Or for that matter, look silly talking to your wrist.
The watchphone features 8 different watch faces you can customize it with. They’re basically homescreen wallpapers that show you the time in analog or digital in various display schemes. One of them is sure to catch your fancy.
Conclusion
We are sure ?500 will get you a far more excellent flagship smartphone form the big majors, give or take another ?20 or so. But considering there are certain things money can’t buy – one of which is bragging rights, the LG GD910 won’t disappoint in that area.
