Nextel Communications, commonly known as the Nextel (formerly listed on NASDAQ: NXTL), now a portion of Sprint Nextel Corporation, was a United States telecommunications company operating a nationwide effort to talk communication system mobile. Unlike other mobile networks, the Nextel network operating in the specialized mobile radio band using Motorola's iDEN technology. Nextel was one of the leading suppliers in the United States to offer a national digital cellular coverage footprint.

Nextel was more twenty million subscribers in the United States, and in 2006, the company said it has served 198 of 200 markets. Nextel has offered prepaid services through the brand Boost Mobile.

Nextel's predecessor, known as FleetCall, was founded in 1987 by Morgan O'Brien, a lawyer telecommunications and Brian McAuley. The company changed its name to Nextel Communications in 1993. In 1995, pioneer Craig McCaw wireless industry has become a major investor in society. Mark Warner, now a U.S. senator from Virginia, and Jack Markell, the current governor of Delaware, were also the first investors.

The company was originally called FleetCall because he used frequencies designated by the Commission Federal Communications for the use of the fleet of shipping. The heart of the business model was to purchase these fleet dispatch frequencies at a substantial discount for the same cost of bandwidth in the frequencies set aside and designated to be sold at auction for wireless telephone service. These "non-cellular" frequencies were made usable for a consumer and business service voice telephony Wireless iDEN technology developed by Motorola, which some observers initially said it would be impractical. Initially did not want FleetCall include the push to talk feature in their phones, but the FCC required that the initial frequencies have been authorized for shipment use. Thereafter, Nextel used the function as a key commercial advantage.

In 2003, before its merger with Sprint Nextel announced plans for its next-generation 3G network. It would have been to use an extension called iDEN WiDEN, developed by Motorola. Nextel made update their network to support packet data protocol WiDEN, higher data rates up to 90 kbit / s. Currently, the Motorola i465, i850, i860, i870, i880 and are the only phones to support WiDEN without modification. Using Motorola RSS software and modifications found numerous cell phone forums sites allow users of i930 and i920 handsets to add the service to expand their phones, this which has been integrated into these devices, but not activated. In October 2005, to free network capacity for cellular calls because of rebanding, Sprint removed the ability to connect to the service of all WiDEN Nextel towers

Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ, NASDAQ: VZ) is a world-wide band and the telecommunications company and a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. It began in 1983 as Bell Atlantic with a footprint covering New Jersey to Virginia and NYNEX with a footprint from New York to Maine that has emerged in the context of the 1984 AT & T out seven "Baby Bells." Before its transformation into Verizon, Bell Atlantic merged with Regional Bell Operating Company, NYNEX, in 1997. The Verizon name is a portmanteau of Veritas and the horizon, and its pronunciation rhymes with horizon. The company headquarters is located in the Verizon building at 140 West Street in Lower Manhattan, New York City.

I hope Im posting this in the right forum, I thought to put it in the Nextel forum but I feel more comfortable here

Anyway one of my friends are on Verizon and do not want to go, but hes pretty rough on my old VX7000 phone if he wants a more lasting. Because Nextel is but it doesn't wat to go services. So I was wondering if I could get an unlocked phone and Nextel to work on the Verizon network. I know it's possible, but I doubt it will work. I think all Nextel phones are the same and I know that Verizon uses CDMA. I also heard that the phones CDMA phones are identical, but I almost expected to see what you all thought before I tell my buds to go spend 250 buck on a new phone just did not work. Ok guys and thank you for your daughters can not help but wait and see what you have to say about it.
