Motorola wants to step over the hardware provider
In order to regain the top position, Nokia gives up the Symbian and turns to windows phone. The software and service director of Motorola Chirstie Wyatt said they will not consider windows phone and they will concentrate on Android.
Windows Phone is not an open system. If they choose it, the company will be a hardware provider. Wyat said they want to create the unique value instead of choosing the closed platform.
In the process of obtaining mastery of the wholesale smartphone market, the operating system has become the main battlefield. Android attracts more and more terminal manufacturer with the good user experience, cheap cost and high openness. Nokia is pressed iPhone and Android. Android has surpassed Symbian and become the world largest smartphone platform.
At the end of 2008, Motorola hired Sanjay Jha as the co-CEO. Motorola said Android will become the future strategy focus. Actually, Microsoft is always the mobile operating system provider of Motorola. Wyatt said they expected a lot on WP7, but it doesn’t turn out to be the reality.
With the rapid development of the mobile network, the terminal and application gradually becomes the mainstream tendency. The performance of the mobile software is more important. Motorola wants to be the leader instead of the hardware provider.
At present, Motorola android phone has gained good market reaction. In the previous years, it has fallen behind the competitors including Nokia, Rim and apple. Its existed ecosystem mode of mobile network has limited developing space in WP7 group. Motorola concentrates on Android system. It’s beneficial to create the focusing effect of the company. And it’s beneficial to increase its competency in the smartphone market. After all, android owns the good user experience, cheap price and high openness.
Android promotes the Motorola to occupy the market share. But can it make the MOTO turn to the leader? Actually, fast developed Android also faces some challenges. The growth of the Android competitor and the change of the Telecom operator’s strategy make a hard way for Moto android.
Moto also makes internal adjustment to improve the software performane of android phone. As the executive of the software and service product, she said Moto will provide better android service. The most important one is the upgrading of Android phone product.
In the future, the homogeneity problem of smarphone will be more and more serious. Except for the simple and beautiful design on the hardware, it needs to integrate more cool applications.
