Poor And Is not Got A Dime – The Blues From Carolina
My favorite classic blue men are mostly unknown Curiously, the three guitarists featured here were in South Carolina office. Floyd Council, Pink Anderson (Pink Floyd borrowed their name) and Scrapper Blackwell.
Floyd Council was not really well known as an artist under his own name, but often also in studio recording sessions with guitar support for 'celebrities such as Blind Boy Fuller, another South Carolina blues man. His picking style is very complex and has been a combination of ragtime and blues, Texas style.
Pink Anderson (I do not think they ever worked or even crossed each other path!) ragtime played guitar and sang in travel medicine shows.
Scrapper Blackwell was a guitar player very varied and has created numerous classic songs such as Blues Before Sunrise, and no knows you When You're Down and Out.
His creation "Kokomo Blues" was recorded by Robert Johnson with the name of "Sweet Home Chicago. " Scrapper has created classics that have been the source of inspiration for the masters of blues music late.
Floyd Council (Born September 2, 1911 and died May 9, 1976) became a noted artist of his Piedmont blues style that was popular throughout this region of the United States in 1930.
He began his career in the 1920s, appearing with the brothers, Leo and Thomas Strowd as "The Chapel Hillbillies." He also played on some sessions with Fuller Blind in the thirties. His throat had been partially immobilized after a stroke in the sixties, but it was reported that his spirit was still alive. Unfortunately, he never recovered his skills reading.
Council adopted in 1976 died after a heart attack, shortly after going live in Sanford, North Carolina
Pink Anderson
birthplace of Pink is in Greenville South Carolina. Having trained himself in some folk instruments, he began play Dr. Frank Kerr, who ran a company called the Compagnie des Indes Remedy in 1914 to perform for the crowds while the doctor sold his special "elixir."
In the city of Spartanburg, Anderson Simeon "Blind Simmie" Dooley in 1916, who showed him how to play guitar – Pink previously had some experience playing in bands for strings. When Rose did not travel with Dr. Kerr, he and Dooley would agree to small parties?. ?
Problems with his heart has been the major factor causing Anderson to retire from the road in 1957.
He had a stroke in 1954, which forced him to stop near the scene, and he would never play with his old skills. He died in October 1974 of a heart attack at age 74. He is buried in Spartanburg, where he was born. Anderson's son, who became known as Little Pink Anderson plays the blues in Vermillion, South Dakota.
Scrapper Blackwell
Born in Syracuse, Caroline, Scrapper Blackwell was one of sixteen children. Part Cherokee Indian, he grew up and spent most of his years in Indianapolis. He was "baptized" with its familiar name, "Scrapper" by his grandmother, because of its nature of Barbary. His father played the violin, but Scrapper is a self-taught guitarist.
Even when he was a teenager, Blackwell has worked as a part-time musician, roaming as far away as Chicago. He was a sociable man, secluded and difficult to be with. Despite this, Blackwell has created a duo with pianist Leroy Carr, he crossed into Indiana during the 1920's, which was a relationship of creative work musically.
Blackwell also made recordings for himself, which included "Kokomo Blues" which became "Old Kokomo Blues "(Kokomo Arnold) before being transformed back into" Sweet Home Chicago "Robert Johnson. Carr and Scrapper traveled the center-west and south from 1928 to 1935 – The stars of the blues scene, and they recorded over a hundred titles.
After the death of Emily Carr Blackwell recover to play in the late 1950s and was the first time in June 1958 by Colin C. Pomroy.
He would resume execution blues again when he was killed during an assault in an alley in Indianapolis. He was 59 years old. Although crime has never been found, police arrested his neighbor for the murder. Scrapper was buried in New Crown Cemetery, Indianapolis. About the Author
