Learn to be a good listener and observer and become a better communicator
We're all in sales: it is, we all always trying to sell ourselves or our point of view. But those of us who are sales professionals often have a difficult task before them.
Sellers must constantly prove to his customers, many of whom view sellers with less flattering characteristics. Consumers may feel that Sellers sneaky, cunning, and only interested in making a sale. They are seen as indifferent to the needs and interests of consumers bent to push the product and shipping the buyer is reluctant until he or she finally buys. And to some extent it some truth in this perception. Many salespeople talk too much and listen too little. Communication is a two way street and we would do well to consider the other persons in the communication loop, not just ourselves.
Great success of sales lies in the ability to learn to listen. Without understanding customer needs, it is unlikely that you'll be able to meet their needs. If sellers would learn listening skills, their life would be easier and their committees much higher. Here are some important points to consider:
Instead of aiming a barrage of technical jargon and statistics the client, why not try to ask questions and get to know your customers by building a relationship with him. People buy people they love. Customers do not people they are suspicious about or by people whom they hold a low opinion. Ultimately, customers buy not for one reason: FEAR! The fear of being wrong, fear of not getting their money, fear of being deceived and later ridiculed by their friends and family. So if you make the customer to a friend, they will trust you more and building a report that will eliminate this fear.
Your ability to listen effectively will make your life easier and happier, regardless of whether you are in professional selling. Effective listening must be learned by all of us in efforts to better understand the needs and views of others. As the Greek philosopher Epictetus said: "God gave to man two ears but only one mouth that he could hear twice as much as he speaks. "
You can also benefit the ratio difference between speaking and listening. Most people speak at a rate of about 120 to 180 words per minute, but we listen at a much faster rate: about 500 words per minute. So, while you listen, you'll also have time to observe the movements of the body, make Responses and comments; clarifications and so on.
Effective listening also requires the ability to adapt. No conversations are alike, nor are the environments in which they take place. The weather conditions, speakers and messages are all different. And there are many other variables that make each different scenario: rest, hunger, comfort, endurance, emotional stability, knowledge of the subject and physical factors such as size and color of the room. These things obviously affect the positive or negative conversations.
One of most effective techniques to gain the trust of your audience (wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend, teacher, boss or client) is to "mirror" what the person said is to repeat or paraphrase what your audience said (often referred to as reflective listening). In doing so, your audience gets the impression you understand him, you think the same, that you care about what he or she thinks. This technique will almost certainly improve your communication skills 50%.
