Overview Firewire Cable
Firewire is the trademark of Apple IEEE 1394 cable at high speed. Firewire cable was created with the intention of fasting transferring video from digital camcorders and external hard drives. Firewire replaced Traditional USB when it was created as a preferred method for transferring data, offering significantly higher transfer rates than USB. In a short time, Firewire has become a standard in many computers and digital camcorders.
Cables Firewire IEEE 1394 cables are called and i-Link cables. These names refer to the same cable under different brands. IEEE 1394 is the actual name of the cable, whereas FireWire is the name given by Apple and i-Link is given by Sony.
There are two types of Firewire cables on the market – FireWire 400 and FireWire 800. The 400 cable is capable of transferring data at speeds of 400 Mbps while the cable 800 can transfer data rate of 800 Mbps which is much faster. Thus, Firewire 800 Firewire 400 cables were replaced in the market.
Cables Firewire used to transfer large quantities of very high speed data. These cables are typically used with camcorders to transfer digital video to computers and are also used to transfer data to and from the external hard drive.
Today, Firewire is slow out of the market date and is replaced by the faster USB 2.0 cables. Apple did not include Firewire as a serial port on laptop or computer so, many camcorders have begun to use USB 2.0 for data transfer.
